WHAT'S A HACKATHON?

A hackathon is usually a 1- or 2-day event that brings together from 60 to 120 people for a collective thinking-and-doing exercise. It can also be for 25 people or for 2500 people, it can take place in person or virtually, and take up to 6 months.

A good hackathon will have one or more concrete objectives (Challenges), and a methodology that helps participants create a functioning prototype of a solution (or at least a very well-elaborated idea of one) by the end of the event.

A really good hackathon starts with attracting a diverse group of participants with the necessary skills to solve the Challenges. It provides participants with close guidance and a carefully selected group of mentors to keep them on track, and delivers a stimulating atmosphere to maximize their creativity
