Bringing greater value to the healthcare ecosystem without inventing new technology: Hack Healthcare 2021
Just adding more technology won’t improve healthcare. Solving concrete problems with technology will. How can you be part of the solution?
Since our first healthcare hackathon in 2012, we have run eight hackathons and connected the minds of thousands of people with our events to hack and improve multiple ecosystems.
We are doing it again in June, and we are once more focusing on healthcare, bringing together all the knowledge and best practices we have developed and improved over the years, now with the support of four core partners: Roche, ABSyM Bruxelles, VITO, and in4care.
Why a healthcare hackathon in 2021?
Organizations across the healthcare industry feel the need to deliver better healthcare outcomes and to relieve pressure on limited resources. In the context of static business models and substantial regulatory burden, a new level of creativity and collaboration is necessary to successfully innovate, and to unlock the promise of (digital) technologies.
Patients and healthcare practitioners need new tools, better tools and ways of working to improve each other’s lives, to improve the standard of care, and to give more people access to the care they need
All parts in this ecosystem have to work together to speed up improvements.
The challenges of Belgian healthcare
The Belgian healthcare ecosystem is stuck between the rock of changing consumer needs and the hard place of the heavily regulated underlying fee-for-service business model.
There is no doubt that the healthcare industry has seen the future accelerating during the past year, with the effect of the COVID pandemic getting deeper, while several sectors of the healthcare industry face critical problems.
A lot of the global issues that the ecosystem is facing can’t be solved in a couple of days – but there are plenty of smaller, narrowly defined, concrete challenges that can be tackled, specific ideas that are able to deliver high impact in the short term are exactly what the healthcare ecosystem needs.
Innovative tech solutions aside – whether it’s robot surgery, AI, wearables or mobile health – what is truly needed is a reorganisation of the ways in which healthcare is delivered and incentivised. Perhaps a reorganisation not only of care delivery, but also of care financing.
Which is why we’ll focus the event on the following themes:
- Personalised prevention
- Better leveraging telemedicine
- Creating and capturing value of healthcare data
- Identifying and realising new sources of funding for the healthcare ecosystem
We’ll talk more about the content of the event in the future posts, but in the meantime…
What will you do at Hack Healthcare
Hack Healthcare is an Open Innovation event aimed at creating ingenious, unorthodox solutions for the healthcare industry. Its purpose is to help you to come up with new ideas, to explore new business models and new technologies, to immediately test these ideas with your fellow participants, and to forge new collaborations to help you start implementing your ideas the day after the event.
The big purpose of the event is to bring high-impact ideas that will improve healthcare in Belgium quickly.
We want to help the healthcare ecosystem to become more patient-centric.
Patient centricity doesn’t only require a higher number of patients in decision-making processes, but also a deeper cooperation of all the healthcare stakeholders: pharma and insurance companies, governments, hospitals, care houses, etc.
Opportunity for everyone
This event is not only for professionals in healthcare, patients or healthcare practitioners. Professionals from inside and outside the healthcare industry are invited to participate, from startups to mature companies, governments of all levels and academia. What brings you all together is your curiosity and ingenuity, and the will to find solutions to big problems in healthcare, focusing on concrete, solvable problems.
How can you participate?
Get a ticket, work hard for the two days of the event, and create new opportunities together with other participants. If you want to participate with your colleagues, book a meeting with Leo, founder of Hack Belgium Labs.
There will also be a post event track to develop the ideas and projects that will come out of Hack Healthcare (more info coming soon).
